Submitted by Don Farber: I’m working on my upcoming KS training sessions for the ECi staff and I thought of something that we should probably add to the ECi eventpaks in an upcoming release:
Linked subscribers.
All of our manufacturing apps contain “people” records – a company’s own staff (users/employees/salesreps), a company’s customers, and vendors/suppliers. In most cases, these records include email addresses. With KnowledgeSync, we can create queries that retrieve this data; best of all, we can then use these queries to auto-populate (and auto-update) subscriber records, who may then be chosen as alert recipients.
This feature is called “subscriber linking” because it’s not an import of data, it’s a live, dynamic link between KS and “people-data” stored in the manufacturing app’s database. As records are added, removed or changed in the ERP database, they’re automatically and instantly reflected within KS.
Now . . . unfortunately, subscriber data is NOT retained when an eventpak is built; however, as queries are retained when an epak is built, we can augment our existing ECi eventpaks to include the query (or queries) that retrieve subscriber data from the manufacturing apps. So (using M1 as an example), we could add queries called “Subscribers; M1 Customers”, “Subscribers; M1 Users”, and “Subscribers; M1 Vendors”. Then, at the time of implementation, all a consultant needs to do is to follow the manual’s instructions for “subscriber linking”, and we will have saved them about 50% of the time needed to set this up.
